The III Degree

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.


Al’s top 10

I haven’t done this for a while, but here is my top 10 college football teams based on nothing but performance this season.  I will not take into account pre-season expectations or expected future performance, but I will use my subjective opinion of the quality of the team that they beat.  No team that has a loss can qualify, even if they lost on a blown call like Toledo did.

  1. LSU - duh.  Wins over Oregon, Miss. St. and West Virginia, all away from home.
  2. Alabama - Wins over Penn State and Arkansas
  3. Clemson - Wins over Auburn and Florida State
  4. Oklahoma - Wins over Florida State and Missouri
  5. Oklahoma State - Win over Texas A&M and Arizona
  6. Iowa State - Wins over Iowa and Connecticut
  7. Georgia Tech - Win over North Carolina and a bad Kansas team
  8. Illinois - Win over ASU and three nobodies. 
  9. Baylor - Win over TCU
  10. Boise State - Win at Georgia
